DIRECTORS

Each of the Directors of the Company have significant business skills and experience. The Board is comprised of the following people.


Robert J Branchi
Non - Executive Chairman

MAICD FCPA
Commenced 1956

With more than 50 years broad experience and knowledge in the motor industry, Mr Branchi has been a Director of AHG for over 25 years.  Prior to his appointment he was the Group’s Managing Director.

Mr Branchi was instrumental in the development of the Company’s philosophy and vision. He led the creation and implementation of the operating controls and key performance indicators which have underpinned the success of the Group, and has been a major force in the success of the Group.

He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Fellow of CPA Australia and represented AHG on the Chamber of Automotive Industries and various subcommittees. Mr Branchi is a director of the Western Australian Motor Industry Foundation.

Mr Branchi is actively involved in community fundraising activities and has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of United Way and the Business and Industry Committee of the Salvation Army.

David Griffiths
Non - Executive Director

B Econ (Honours) UWA, Master of Economics ANU 
Commenced 2007

Mr Griffiths has more than 15 years experience in equity capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and the corporate advisory sector.  He is a former division director of Macquarie Bank Limited and Executive Chairman of Porter Western Limited.

Mr Griffiths is currently a non executive director of Thinksmart Limited and Northern Iron Limited. 

Giovanni (John) Groppoli
Non-Executive Director

B.Juris, LLB, FAICD
Commenced 2006

Mr Groppoli was previously a partner of national law firm Deacons from 1987 to 2004 where he specialised in franchising, legal compliance and corporate governance. He was Managing Partner of the Perth office of Deacons from 1998 to 2002.

Mr Groppoli left private practice in 2004 and is currently Managing Director of Milners Pty Ltd., a leading Australian brand marketing group specialising in quality high-end home products.

Mr Groppoli has considerable experience in investment and transaction structuring, strategic and business development, corporate governance and risk management skills.

Mr Groppoli is currently a director of Retravision (WA) Limited, Electcom Limited and a number of proprietary companies.

Bronte M Howson
Managing Director

Commenced 1988

Mr Howson has over 25 years experience in the automotive industry. Prior to his appointment as CEO in January 2000, Bronte successfully ran his own automotive parts business which he sold to AHG in 1988 and accepted a position within the Group as General Manager, AMCAP Distribution and Logistics Centre.

Bronte has extensive experience in importing and distribution of automotive products, coupled with strong local and national market intelligence. Since his appointment as CEO, the Group has significantly expanded its range of Dealerships.

 

Peter W Stancliffe
Non-Executive Director
BE (Civil), FAICD
Commenced 2005

Mr Stancliffe has more than 35 years experience in the management of major corporations, both in Australia and overseas. He is a former Chief Executive Officer of Australian National Industries Limited and of Pirelli Cables Limited, and has extensive experience in strategy development, management processes and practices, and corporate governance.

Mr Stancliffe is a non-executive director of Korvest Limited and Hills Industries Limited.  He also chairs the Audit and Compliance Committee of Hills Industries Limited and has served on Hills Industries’ Remuneration and Nomination Committees.

He is a qualified Civil Engineer and is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

        

 

Gregory J Wall
Non-Executive Director

Mr Wall has over 30 years experience in Banking and Finance and was Chief Executive of StateWest Credit Society Ltd for 10 years and Managing Director of Home Building Society following Statewest's merger with Home Building Society. Mr Wall held the position of Managing Director of Home Building Society until its merger with Bank of Queensland in 2007.

He has extensive experience in strategic planning, marketing and finance. He holds a Master of Arts (Future Studies) and has completed the Institute of Company Directors diploma course. Greg is a Senior Associate of the Australian Institute of Banking and Finance, a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a member of the Futures Foundation.

He is a former director of Gold Estates Australia (1902) Ltd, Femantle Football Club Ltd and Credit Union Services Corporation Ltd.

Hamish C Williams
Executive Director, Strategy and Planning

Commenced 1993

Mr Williams joined AHG as Chief Financial Officer in 1993. He was made Finance Director in 1996 and has more recently been appointed Executive Director, Strategy and Planning as of February 2009.  In this position he is responsible for undertaking strategic projects, corporate planning and continuous improvement programs.  This newly created position reflects the Board's decision to add to its senior management capabilities.

Mr Williams was educated in England and gained admission to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales in 1977, becoming a Fellow in 1982.

Mr Williams has gained extensive experience in senior financial roles both overseas and in Perth. Hamish has completed a Diploma in Marketing and is currently a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia, and a Member of the Institute of Company Directors.

Michael J Smith
Non - Executive Director

Commenced May 2010

Michael Smith was appointed to the Board as a non executive director in May 2010.  In addition to operating a strategy consultancy firm, Black House, which consults to a number of leading Australian companies, Mr Smith chairs Synergy, WA’s larges energy retailer, iiNet, Australia’s second largest internet service provider; and Perth International Arts Festival.  He is also a director of 7-Eleven Stores and Vice President of the Australian Institute of Company Directors WA.

 

 

 

 

Company Secretary

Susan D Symmons
Company Secretary

Commenced 2006

Ms Symmons joined AHG in June 2006 as Company Secretary.

Prior to joining AHG, Ms Symmons spent 5 years as Company Secretary of Evans & Tate Limited.  In that role she was responsible for all legal, company secretarial and investor relations matters and was involved in a range of projects involving capital raisings, acquisitions and divestment transactions.  Prior to working with Evans & Tate, Ms Symmons spent twelve years at Heytesbury Pty Ltd, with the last three of those years as Company Secretary. 

Ms Symmons holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Accounting and Corporate Administration from Curtin University and is a member of the Chartered Secretaries Australia.
